  • Battery Optimised: The 1/4" P narrow-kerf profile removes less wood per pass, reducing load on the AP System motor and extending runtime per charge.

Stihl HTA 66 Chain Questions

What size chain does a Stihl HTA 66 take?

1/4" P pitch, .043" (1.1mm) gauge, 64 drive links on the standard 30cm (12") bar.

Is this the same chain as the HTA 86?

Yes. The HTA 66 and HTA 86 both ship with a 30cm bar and 1/4" P PM3 chain, so the same 64 drive link loop fits both. The HTA 135 is different — it runs a 3/8" P chain.

What file do I use on this chain?

A 3.2mm (1/8") round file suits this 1/4" P chain.

Is this a genuine Stihl chain?

No — it's an Alpine Chain Co. chain manufactured to the same specification, replacing the Stihl 71 PM3. Same pitch, gauge and drive link count, with a semi-chisel profile chosen for Australian hardwood. Every fit is backed by our Guaranteed Fit system.

How to Verify Your Chain Size

If you are unsure if this is the correct chain for your Stihl HTA 66, check the side of your current guide bar. The Pitch, Gauge, and Drive Link (DL) count are typically stamped directly into the bar near the mounting bolts.
